What we are doing
Before we begin to build the new railway, the surrounding area will become part of the largest archaeology programme ever undertaken in the UK.
We will be carrying out archaeological work on land off Cappers Lane. This work is due to start from Monday 8th February for around four weeks (subject to weather and site conditions). A team of archaeologists will be working on the site to carry out excavations. Machinery will be used to remove the topsoil, before archaeologists dig by hand and carefully record any findings. To enable the works, a small compound will be set up with welfare facilities and a parking area. Access to the site will be via Cappers Lane.
