Notice of overnight road closures on the M42 M6 eastbound Link Road & M42 southbound lane closures

What we are doing

Location
M6-M42 eastbound link road between M6 junction 4a and M42 junction 8/junction 7.

M42 southbound carriageway lane closures from junctions 9 to 7a.

Duration
The road will be closed at the above locations each night between 9:00pm to 6:00am on Thursday 16 July and Friday 17 July 2026.

What we are doing
The traffic management is required for safety critical works to finalise the new barrier layout for the M42 Triple Box. Once complete there will be a new (temporary) slip road for the M6 southbound traffic to merge with the M42 southbound at this location.

What to expect
Low level of noise from our machinery and a clearly signed diversion route.

This work is subject to consent with National Highways

HS2 is undergoing a comprehensive reset to ensure it can be built efficiently and for the lowest reasonable cost. This work is being carried out in stages and will be completed in 2026. We will provide you with updates on the reset and what this means for our plans to build the railway in your area.
