What we are doing

Following a final inspection and audit ahead of the planned reopening of Addison Road on 3 October, the traffic compliance team identified that a small section of the vehicle restraint barrier to the north of the bridge did not meet the required safety standards. As a result, and in the interests of public safety, the road closure has remained in place while the project team develops and implements an appropriate solution.

We would like to reassure the community that regular assessments have confirmed that the vehicle restraint barrier met the required standards, and that the highway has operated safely since it opened to traffic in early 2024.
This week, the project team has worked closely with the relevant parties to agree a safe way forward, and has confirmed that a temporary traffic management arrangement, comprising two-way traffic signals and concrete safety barriers, can be implemented. This will allow the highway to reopen safely while a programme of works is agreed to complete the necessary repairs.
We can confirm that the footpath on Addison Road will reopen to pedestrians and cyclists from 5:00pm on Friday 9 October, with the road reopening to vehicular traffic from 5:00pm on Friday 16 October under temporary two-way traffic signal control.
We would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their continued patience while these essential safety measures are put in place, and we will continue to provide updates as the programme of works for the permanent repairs is developed.
