Piling works in Euston Throat – 15 October to Spring 2027

What we are doing

Starting 15 October, we’ll start installing piles within our Euston Throat railway cutting worksite. We expect these works to complete in Spring 2027. Our working hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm. However, the concrete pour for each pile must be within a single shift so the concrete does not dry out. This means we will sometimes work until 10pm to finish a pile. We will need to work over four weekends to complete four piles between November 2026 and March 2027. We will provide updates when we have confirmed dates and working hours for these works.

We install a pile by drilling a hole in the ground and then filling the hole with concrete and steel. Once we finish pouring concrete, we use a vacuum excavator to remove any excess concrete before leaving the pile to set. This is the quietest possible method for installing piles. You may notice increased noise from the piling rig, excavator, and vacuum excavator as we drill and remove muck and concrete. You may also notice some vibration from the piling. We’ll monitor our works closely to ensure we are operating within approved noise and vibration limits.

We do not install two piles next to each other at the same time, instead you will see the rig moving back and forth across the area.

HS2 is undergoing a comprehensive reset to ensure it can be built efficiently and for the lowest reasonable cost. This work is being carried out in stages and will be completed in 2026. We will provide you with updates on the reset and what this means for our plans to build the railway in your area.
