What we are doing

We have previously notified you of our works to remove all the utilities from Hampstead Road and redirect them across Granby Terrace bridge and over the retaining wall within our worksite. These works are required before we extend Hampstead Road bridge. After we extend Hampstead Road bridge, we will permanently reinstall the utilities back on to Hampstead Road.

In January 2026, we started the next phase of the utility diversion works, involving various utility service providers working within our site, as well as on Hampstead Road, Lidlington Place and Stanhope Street to complete the final connections and energise their networks.

From July, UK Power Networks (UKPN) will be working on Varndell Street and Stanhope Street to complete some jointing works.

On Monday 6 July, UKPN will close Varndell Street for around 2 weeks to allow jointing works to be completed safely within the closure area. This will be done in two phases.

  • The first phase will start on Monday 6 July and will require parking bay suspensions on Stanhope Street and Varndell Street, as well as temporary lights at the junction.
  • The second phase will start on Monday 13 July, when they’ll reduce the working area, remove the temporary lights and continue to suspend several parking bays on Stanhope Street only. Traffic will be diverted via Mackworth Street, Harrington Street and Varndell Street.

UKPN will work from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, however if works take longer than expected, they may need to work some weekends during the day to complete these works. Please see a map of the works area to the right.

There may be some noise during jointing works. These works will be monitored closely to ensure they remain within the noise limits agreed with the local council.

HS2 is undergoing a comprehensive reset to ensure it can be built efficiently and for the lowest reasonable cost. This work is being carried out in stages and will be completed in 2026. We will provide you with updates on the reset and what this means for our plans to build the railway in your area.
