Well House Road stairs

We are rebuilding the stairs on Wells House Road. This includes removing damaged sections, improving drainage, constructing new supporting walls, steel portals and steps.

Works will include a series of lane and road closures on Old Oak Common Lane, to support activities taking place on the stairs. The activities include demolishing supporting walls and the stairs themselves, excavating materials, and concrete pouring within the stairwell, and neighbouring properties.

There will be some level of noise, dust, vibration, restricted access, deliveries, and construction activities. This includes demolition, excavation, lifting operations, and installation works near residential properties. We will be putting mitigations in place to reduce the impact to residents.

June – December 2026
Mondays – Fridays 8am – 6pm, and Saturdays 8am – 1pm

Old Oak Common Lane: single lane closure for Wells House Road stairs work

A single lane closure northbound on Old Oak Common Lane. The work supports activities taking place on the stairs. The activities include demolishing supporting walls and the stairs themselves, excavating materials, and concrete pouring within the stairwell, and neighbouring properties.

Working hours: 8am-5pm (although the lane closure will last until up to 6pm)

From Friday 24 July, intermittently as required see dates below:

• Monday 10 August 8am – 6pm Lane closure  – Concrete delivery & pouring
• Thursday 13 August 8am – 6pm Lane closure – Concrete delivery & pouring
• Wednesday 19 August 8am – 6pm Lane closure – Concrete delivery & pouring

UKPN enabling works summer 2026

From Monday 15 June 2026 until 30th August 2026 , we are upgrading power cables to modernise the network ahead of the opening of the station and guarantee its long-term stability. As part of the renewal, we need to install new ducts underneath the railway bridge and along the south of Wells House Road to protect the cables. We are working with utility companies to update their cables and pipes, which will mean less disruption to residents and businesses in the future.

We need to clear some vegetation around the back of residents’ properties, south of Wells House Road. The work also includes ground reduction to make the area nearer properties level with the current work area. This is to provide a safe area for us to carry out the work.

UKPN HET enabling works
Work item: HS2-OOC – SCP-26-2378

We are continuing to upgrade power cables to modernise the network ahead of the opening of the station and guarantee its long term stability. We will be installing new ducts underneath the railway bridge and along the south of Wells House Road and under Old Oak Common Lane to protect the cables.

We will be installing sheet piles to help us prepare for the next phase of work, which will involve tunnelling using hand tools. We will notify residents about this work in early autumn 2026.

Works will be during regular working hours:
(Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, Saturday, 8am to 1pm). We won’t start any breaking work before 9am on Saturdays.

Tree felling Wells House Road
Work item: HS2-OOC – SCP-26-2436

On Sunday 13th September 2026, we are removing a tree which is along the route of a power cable. This was originally planned to form part of the tree-felling work, which was carried out in March 2026, but the potential for nesting birds was discovered and work was postponed. The power cable will play an essential role in powering the wider area as well as Old Oak Common station.

Due to access limitations, the cable cannot be installed without the removal of this tree. An ecologist has since re inspected and approved the work.

Working hours between 8.00am and 4.00pm

Saturday working: Central Line bridge enabling works

We are continuing with work to support the construction of railway bridges on land near the Central Line.

Residents can expect to experience some construction noise, within the limits allowed by agreement with the local authority.

We have to carry out these works on a Saturday to ensure we meet programme dates which impact temporary, scheduled closures of the Great Western Mainline and the Central Line. We will complete our activity as quickly as possible to reduce disruption.We will use equipment and methods which help to reduce noise. We will engage directly with residents impacted by these works. The works are described in more detail in the link above.

Duration:
Every Saturday from 18 July until late December, 8am until 6pm.

Update: Overnight Central Line bridge work – August 2026
Work item: HS2-OOC – SCP-26-2078

We are continuing with our work to support the construction of railway bridges near the Central Line, around 90 metres south from the rear of properties on Wells House Road.

As part of the construction on the new bridge, we need to install temporary wall to support the pouring of the concrete. For safety, the work needs to be completed overnight when the Central Line is not operating. The work will involve some drilling and fixing, and some machinery operating to lift in the temporary wall. We don’t anticipate the work to be disruptive.

Working times:

• Sunday 16 August – Friday 28 August: Install temporary works
• Sunday 13 September – Friday 18 September: Install temporary works

Old Oak Common overnight concrete works

We are continuing the concrete works for the conventional station platforms, with works along the live railway.

We have to carry out these works overnight, when trains are not running. We will complete our activity as quickly as possible to reduce disruption. We will use equipment and methods which help to reduce noise. We will engage directly with residents impacted by these works. The works are described in more detail in the link above.

23 August 2026 – 31 July 2027
We will be working overnight from Sunday to Friday, between 10pm to 6am. A schedule of upcoming nighttime works can be found in the link above.

Update: Old Oak Common tunnel construction works

Maintenance of monitoring equipment installed, Old Oak Common
Work item: HS2-SCS-25-1284

We will be carrying out ad hoc maintenance when required and this will be ongoing till September 2028 of the monitoring equipment installed on the Network Rail land behind 157 to 167 Wells House Road and Kildun Court.

We will be using hand tools, and you may notice workers in the area carrying equipment to the works location. The monitoring equipment installed at this location will allow us to monitor ground movement from the Old Oak Common Tunnel and safeguard residential properties in advance of tunnelling works.

Access for the maintenance to the monitoring equipment will be through the Network Rail access gate.

Update: Kildun Court protection works, Old Oak Common

We will be carrying out asset and utility protection measures at and outside Kildun Court prior to the building of the Old Oak Common tunnel. We will also require ongoing access to the building. You may notice workers in and outside Kildun court, and low-level noise from handheld machinery. Security staff regularly checking the building. Restricted pedestrian access in front of Kildun Court.

Update: Old Oak Common tunnel monitoring update for works near Wells House Road, North Acton

We wrote to you in April to update you on our monitoring works at Wells House Road during the construction of the Old Oak Common tunnel. As we continue to build the tunnel, we will need to carry out additional monitoring.

• On 29 and 30 July we will setup a temporary connection cable alongside the front perimeter wall of 137 to 167 Wells House Road properties for monitoring or tunnel, this will be removed at the end of each after monitoring.
• From 29 July to 7 August we will also install a temporary monitoring point inside 167 Wells House Road and Kildun Court and carry out non-intrusive monitoring.
• From 1 August to 31 August, we will carry out daily visual inspections of properties we are monitoring alongside Wells House Road.
