Viaduct construction
A series of measures will reduce the time and impact of the construction of the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal viaduct on canal users and walkers.
These measures include creating haul roads within the construction area to cut down use of public roads; creating pre-assembled steel deck segments away from the structure to cut construction time and make best use of the space; and use of protective working environment measures (cofferdams) to ensure the stability of the canal during the works.

Viaduct design
Updated designs respond to community feedback and include a series of wetlands containing four new ecological ponds and expansive grass meadows. These will sit alongside approximately 22,000m² of newly established woodland on the embankment to the north of the viaduct – the equivalent of three football pitches.
