HS2 in Warwickshire

Britain's new high-speed railway

In Warwickshire, HS2 trains pass two viaducts near Radbourne before reaching Southam. They then go through a tunnel beneath Long Itchington Wood in Warwickshire.

HS2 trains then cross the River Itchen and the Oxford Canal before heading north-west past Bascote Heath, Offchurch and Cubbington. We’re building a green tunnel at Burton Green. This uses a cut-and-cover technique, which involves digging a trench, building the tunnel structure, then covering it with soil and planting trees and shrubs. The railway then heads towards Interchange station in Solihull.

Further north, the trains cross the M6 and M42 before entering the Delta Junction near Water Orton. This triangular junction allows trains to travel between London, Birmingham and the north.

Programme reset

We’re making sure HS2 provides the best value for Britain by carrying out a full review of the programme for the government.

Our CEO Mark Wild is resetting HS2’s cost and schedule. He successfully led Crossrail’s recovery in the wake of major challenges. This led to the successful opening of the Elizabeth line – now the busiest in the UK.
