James has over 20 years’ experience in communications and engagement. James joined HS2 in 2019 and joined the Executive Leadership team as the External Affairs Director in 2024, responsible for media, public affairs, digital media and marketing communications.

Before joining HS2, James led public affairs and community engagement for Crossrail Ltd for seven years. He started his career at Transport for London, before taking on communications roles in the private sector supporting clients across a range of sectors including transport, energy, housing, financial services and IT communications.
