What we are doing

Parkway utility works – February to October 2026

We need to protect and divert utility services beneath the Parkway junction and in the surrounding area before the tunnel boring machines pass beneath. In February, we started works on the sewers, water mains and power cables on Parkway, Albert Street and Delancey Street to protect utilities. We expect to complete these works in October 2026.

Parkway gas mitigation works – September 2026 to March 2027

From late September 2026 to early spring 2027, we’ll modify junctions around Parkway in order to carry out gas main works before the arrival of the tunnel boring machines. We’ll require temporary traffic management including footpath diversions and lane closures while we excavate the ground to access the existing gas pipes. Hampstead Road bridge construction – from autumn 2026

We need to extend Hampstead Road bridge to pass over the newly excavated and extended railway cutting. We’ll build a temporary road to the east of Hampstead Road, over the area known as Zone 5, to maintain an uninterrupted traffic flow on Hampstead Road while we extend the bridge. We expect these works to continue in phases until 2031. We’ll need to close Hampstead Road on three occasions for approximately four weeks each during this period. The first closure is currently scheduled for early 2027.

Lorry lay-bys on Park Village East south – early 2027

In early 2027, we’ll install two lorry lay-bys at the southern end of Park Village East. We require the lay-bys as we have a limited amount of space on site. We’ll use the lay-bys for deliveries and collections to and from our worksite. Tower cranes will lift equipment and materials from the lay-bys into and out of our worksite. The lorry lay-bys will remain in place for the remainder of our works.

Easter bank holiday 24-hour works (day and night) – 26 to 29 March 2027

We plan our construction activities to avoid working over the holidays wherever possible, but for safety reasons, we can only carry out certain works next to the railway when the tracks are not in use. During the Easter bank holiday weekend, we may need to work 24 hours a day, including overnight, to complete essential works. We’ll provide further details about the planned works and working hours nearer the time.

Preparatory works ahead of tunnelling – spring 2027

From spring 2027, we’ll carry out preparatory works in the Camden Cutting North worksite ahead of tunnelling. We’ll install a conveyor system which will take excavated material from our tunneling site to a collection point in Camden Cutting South. We’ll install a steel gantry structure with a three-storey welfare and office building on top of it. This building is for the tunnelling team, who will work mostly underground to build the Euston Approaches sprayed concrete lined tunnels (SCL).

We’ll begin constructing the Euston Cavern Shaft in autumn 2027 in the Camden Cutting North worksite. Firstly, we’ll dig a deep shaft beneath track-level just south of 1 Park Village East, followed by a continuous cycle of digging and spraying the tunnels continuously with concrete as we excavate. This will be done a few feet at a time to help minimise ground settlement. Our team will work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’ll take about five years to construct the tunnels in Euston Approaches.

Mornington Street bridge closure – from autumn 2027

We previously informed you we need to carry out protective works to Mornington Street bridge before tunnelling and major excavations start. From autumn 2027, we’ll close the bridge to vehicles for around 5 years to carry out this work. The duration of this closure may change depending on when tunnelling works are finished. We’ll maintain pedestrian and cycle access during the closure of the bridge. Closer to the time, we’ll inform you of the traffic layout along Park Village East including how the lay-bys will operate while the bridge is closed and the lay-bys.

Euston Scissor Box works – ongoing

We’ll continue our works at track-level to build the foundations and other support structures in the Euston Scissor Box. We’ll notify you of any impactful works closer to the time.

HS2 is undergoing a comprehensive reset to ensure it can be built efficiently and for the lowest reasonable cost. This work is being carried out in stages and will be completed in 2026. We will provide you with updates on the reset and what this means for our plans to build the railway in your area.
