What we are doing

Safe stop down to SCS works from 10 October 

Safety is our number one priority at HS2. Following an incident that occurred at the Green Park Way site in Ealing, works are being safely halted across the London Tunnels section of the route, including sites in Ealing. While no workers were physically harmed, our contractor, Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture, is undertaking a comprehensive review of safety procedures and leadership on their sites before a safe restart can take place. 

Works will be brought to a safe stop and will remain on hold until we’re satisfied that all appropriate measures are in place to protect the workforce. We anticipate the review may take a number of weeks depending on the area and the type of work involved. 

We will provide details on when the safe stop will be in place over the course of the next week.

We’ve previously wrote you to inform you about our works from 3 October to 2 November 2025, however these dates have now changed to 11 October to 10 November.

We will work 24 hours a day, seven days a week below ground at the Mandeville Road Ventilation Shaft site.

This work is to connect the tunnel to the main shaft and needs to take place 24 hours a day for safety and engineering reasons. We will be working inside the tunnel about 25 metres below ground.

We will remove the tunnel lining segments from the upper part of the tunnel and break out the concrete between the tunnel and the bottom of the shaft. The broken concrete will then be removed through the tunnel. To reduce night-time noise, we will restrict concrete cutting and drilling activities to between 8am and 10pm daily.
